Job Seeker Workshops

Goodwill provides weekly and monthly programs and job seeker workshops. Our Workshops are designed to give job seekers the skills necessary to succeed in a highly competitive job market. These programs and workshops are free and open to the public. We do ask that job seekers register before hand, because space is limited. Job seeker workshops, classes, and programs are held at the Charlottesville Virginia Career Works CenterHarrisonburg Virginia Career Works CenterMadison Heights Jobs Center, and Roanoke Jobs Campus.

Professionalism
How to present yourself, what’s expected of you before and after you are hired. Not just getting a job, but keeping it and excelling once you have one.

Your Personal Best
Your Personal Best is a 3 hour interactive class to help you achieve success on your new job! In addition to learning how to perform your new job functions, you must also pursue learning that goes beyond what’s required or expected of you. Learn how to: present yourself with confidence and adapt quickly to your new culture, establish trust with your new co-workers and boss, personally model respect and cooperation, secure early wins with your new boss!

WIOA Orientation
This workshop introduces you to the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act housed here at the center. This grant allows us to assist with tuition and employment services for qualified individuals pursuing or hoping to pursue an approved training/career. Center Orientation
This workshop introduces you to all of the services and programs offered at the Virginia Career Works Harrisonburg Center and through our community partners. Any questions regarding the Center can be answered by our Resource Room Coordinator. at (540) 433-4864 ext. 120.

Resume Writing
This workshop teaches you how to create a basic resume and what information and formatting should be used. The center has computers available to the public in order to create your own resume after the workshop and print as many copies as you need. We are also able to assist you in uploading your resume to the Workforce Connection website.

Interviewing
This workshop prepares you for interview questions commonly asked by employers. There is an option to schedule a more in depth, mock interview at the end of the seminar.

This workshop introduces you to basic budgeting and teaches you best practices in money management.

Get Write To It
This class focuses on applying simple rules of effective writing to help students improve their day-to-day writing of emails and other related correspondence. Students will be brought up to speed of the latest rules of grammar, capitalization and punctuation while learning how to eliminate spelling errors and build meaningful vocabulary. Resources provided for writing emails, ID Notes, correctives, and evaluations.

Your Personal Best is a 3 hour interactive class to help you achieve success on your new job! Financial Literacy
Financial Literacy is a workshop that teaches methods to properly use your finances and provides information to improve your financial situations. We will cover topics such as: budgeting, credit, savings, avoiding scams, and more. Our March 28th workshop will be taught by Freedom First Credit Union. For more information, click here.
