Job Seeker Workshops

Goodwill provides weekly and monthly programs and job seeker workshops. Our Workshops are designed to give job seekers the skills necessary to succeed in a highly competitive job market. These programs and workshops are free and open to the public. We do ask that job seekers register before hand, because space is limited. Job seeker workshops, classes, and programs are held at the Charlottesville Virginia Career Works CenterHarrisonburg Virginia Career Works CenterMadison Heights Jobs Center, and Roanoke Jobs Campus.

Your Personal Best is a 3 hour interactive class to help you achieve success on your new job! In addition to learning how to perform your new job functions, you must also pursue learning that goes beyond what’s required or expected of you. Learn how to: present yourself with confidence and adapt quickly to your new culture, establish trust with your new co-workers and boss, personally model respect and cooperation, secure early wins with your new boss!

WIOA Orientation
This workshop introduces you to the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act housed here at the center. This grant allows us to assist with tuition and employment services for qualified individuals pursuing or hoping to pursue an approved training/career. Come on Wednesday, January 16th for job seeker workshops all in one day that teach you the most effective ways to find and keep your next job, tips and techniques to use in interviews, resume writing, and what programs and services are available to you.

Resume Writing
This workshop teaches you how to create a basic resume and what information and formatting should be used. The center has computers available to the public in order to create your own resume after the workshop and print as many copies as you need. We are also able to assist you in uploading your resume to the Workforce Connection website.

Interviewing
This workshop prepares you for interview questions commonly asked by employers. There is an option to schedule a more in depth, mock interview at the end of the seminar.

How to Get a Job
How to Get a Job is a hour workshop that teaches fundamental interview skills that can be applied to any job. We will cover topics such as: first impressions, formal speech, work place attire, interview etiquette, and mock interviews.

Resume Building
Resume Building is a 2 hour workshop that reviews your resume and provides the needed revisions that will help you obtain a career. Topics include resumes, cover letters, and interview etiquette.

Financial Literacy
Financial Literacy is a 2 hour workshop that teaches methods to properly use your finances and provides information to improve your financial situations. We will cover topics such as: budgeting, credit, savings, and more.

Introduction to Information Technology
Offered as a 6-day course, must attend every session.
Introduction to Information Technology is a workshop that teaches you the fundamentals needs to pursue a career in IT support. You will be able to obtain an Information Technology Fundamentals certification at the end of the course. Additionally, you will have the knowledge that will help you obtain a career. We will cover topics such as: hardware, software, operating systems, and much more.
