Additional Information Regarding COVID-19

Goodwill Industries of the Valleys is closely following the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as the Virginia Department of Health (VDH). We have a response team in place to remain agile and diligent. To date we have taken the following steps:

  • Goodwill has launched Virtual Services for the public and individuals enrolled in training and employment programs. Additional services include virtual computer classes, a job board of employers currently hiring, resume assistance, one-on-one coaching, live online classes, and more.
  • We continue to monitor all facilities to ensure they are stocked with the appropriate cleaning supplies and regularly scheduled cleaning and sanitation efforts are continuous.
  • Employees who are working continuously take precautionary health measures including, frequently washing their hands, social distancing, staying home when sick, and eliminating non-essential work travel.
  • Tours of the Goodwill facilities and mission services will be canceled until further notice, including The Real Goodwill Tour.
  • Individuals interested in supporting Goodwill during the crisis can donate securely online. You may also find other ways to support Goodwill by clicking here.

Goodwill is committed to the individuals who turn to us for training and employment programs, our donors and shoppers, and the communities we serve. Changes to office or program hours will be updated on the Contact Us page of our website.

Our Plans for Operating Safely

In order to safely operate:

  • All stores received a deep cleaning before reopening.
  • Plexiglass barriers have been installed at cash registers.
  • Hand sanitizer is available at cash register stations for cashiers.
  • New signage installed highlights safety precautions as well as to aid in social distancing, including floor graphics near cash registers and throughout the store.

The following measures are in place to ensure the safety of our employees, shoppers, and donors:

  • Social distancing is a top priority. New signage provides guidance for customers and employees.
  • Masks are required following CDC and VDH guidelines for proper usage including being worn by store employees as required by Forward Virginia guidelines.
  • Stores will abide by the Governor’s requirements for the number of patrons. During peak times it may be necessary to set time limits to ensure everyone has an opportunity to shop.
  • Employees are wearing gloves in the donation area and sometimes on the sales floor.
  • Dressing rooms are closed.
  • Water fountains are closed.
