Additional Information Regarding COVID-19

Goodwill Industries of the Valleys is following closely the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as the Virginia Department of Health (VDH). We have a response team in place, with a goal of remaining agile and diligent. To date we have taken the following steps:

  • Goodwill has launched Virtual Services for the public and individuals enrolled in training and employment programs. Additional services include virtual computer classes, a job board of employers currently hiring, resume assistance, one-on-one coaching, live online classes, and more.
  • Goodwill has launched a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Drive with Carilion Clinic. Click here for more information.
  • We continue to monitor all facilities to ensure they are stocked with the appropriate cleaning supplies, and regularly scheduled cleaning and sanitation efforts are continuous.
  • Employees who are working continue to take precautionary health measures including, frequently washing their hands, social distancing, staying home when sick, and eliminating non-essential work travel until further notice.
  • Many employees continue to work from home and offices remain closed to the public. You may call (540) 581.0620 ext. 1106 for assistance.
  • Goodwill has canceled all public events, including job fairs, workshops, and computer classes. We are also limiting staff and in-person services to 10 or fewer people in close proximity to one another.
  • Tours of the Goodwill facilities and mission services will be canceled until further notice, including The Real Goodwill Tour.
  • Individuals interested in supporting Goodwill during the crisis can donate securely online. You may also find other ways to support Goodwill by clicking here.

Goodwill is committed to the individuals who turn to us for training and employment programs, our donors and shoppers, and the communities we serve. Changes to office or program hours will be updated on the Contact Us page of our website.

Our Plans for Reopening Safely

In order to prepare to safely reopen, we have:

  • All stores will receive a deep cleaning prior to opening.
  • Plexiglass barriers have been installed at cash registers.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available at cash register stations for cashiers.
  • Signage is being installed to highlight safety precautions as well as to aid in social distancing, including floor graphics near cash registers and throughout the store.

Upon reopening, the following measures will be in place to ensure the safety of our employees, shoppers, and donors:

  • Social distancing will be a top priority. New signage will be placed to provide guidance for customers and employees.
  • Stores will abide by the Governor’s requirements for the number of patrons. During peak times it may be necessary to set time limits to ensure everyone has an opportunity to shop.
  • Masks will be recommended following CDC and VDH guidelines for proper usage, including being worn by store employees as required by Forward Virginia guidelines.
  • Employees will be wearing gloves in the donation area as well as on the sales floor.
  • Greeters will be providing a clean shopping cart, and instruction on new shopping standards to stop the spread of COVID-19.
  • Dressing rooms will be closed.
  • Restrooms will be closed.
  • Water fountains will be closed.
