Updated 3/24/2020 at 12pm

At Goodwill, individuals, families, and our communities are at the heart of everything we do.  As we continue to see heightened concerns around Coronavirus (COVID-19) we wanted to take a few minutes to share with you how we are working to keep our donors, customers, individuals served, and employees both safe and healthy.

Goodwill Industries of the Valleys is following closely the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).  Things are changing quickly.  We have a response team in place, with a goal of remaining agile and diligent.  To date, in an abundance of caution, we have taken the following steps:

  • Until further notice, all Goodwill stores are closed.  Customers may continue to shop online at
  • Donation Centers in Stores will continue to operate Monday – Saturday 9am – 5pm and Sunday 12pm – 5pm*
  • Attended Donation Centers will operate Monday – Saturday from 9am – 5pm.
  • Goodwill has increased the virtual services offerings for the public and individuals enrolled in training and employment programs. Additional services include virtual computer classes, a job board of employers currently hiring, resume assistance, and more.  Visit and click on the Virtual Services link to access.
  • We continue to monitor all facilities to ensure they are stocked with the appropriate cleaning supplies, and regularly scheduled cleaning and sanitation efforts are continuous.
  • Employees who are working continue to take precautionary health measures including, frequently wash their hands, social distancing, staying home when sick, and eliminating non-essential work travel until further notice.
  • Employees who are able to, are now working from home. This will mean some offices may close to the public.
  • Goodwill has cancelled all public events, including job fairs, Dinner in the Dark, workshops, and computer classes. We are also limiting staff and in-person services to 10 or fewer people in close proximity to one another.
  • Until further notice, volunteers and non-essential staff will not be admitted to program areas.
  • Tours of the Goodwill facilities and mission services will be cancelled until further notice, including The Real Goodwill Tour.

Goodwill is committed to the individuals who turn to us for training and employment programs, our donors and shoppers, and the communities we serve.  Changes to office or program hours will be updated on the Contact Us page of our website.

The Virginia Goodwill Network has issued a joint press release regarding Goodwill operations in Virginia as of March 20, 2020.

*The following Store Donation Centers will close: Altavista, Bassett, Bedford, Chatham, Farmville, Pearisburg, and Verona. These locations will have EDGAR donation bins for collecting small and non-breakable items.
