TANF Support Services at Goodwill Help People Get Back to Work

Virginia’s TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) program emphasizes personal responsibility. Individuals may receive services such as job skills training, work experience, job readiness training, child care assistance, transportation, and other work related expenses.

Goodwill provides TANF Support Services to the Department of Social Services in local communities. The purpose of these services is to determine the employment ability for individuals receiving TANF benefits to help them get back to work.

Services include:

  • Interview to determine individual goals
  • Assessment of interests, ability, and needs
  • Referrals for diagnostic testing
  • Recommendation for alternate support services
  • Case management

Services are provided based on the individual needs of the person.

Goodwill TANF Support Services are available to individuals upon referral from the Department of Social Services. They must live in the City of Roanoke or Salem or Counties of Roanoke, Craig, Botetourt, or Franklin. Services are funded by the Department of Social Services.
