Goodwill and Dell Partner for Computer Recycling
In 2008, Goodwill Industries of the Valleys began a partnership with Dell, Inc. to recycle computers and related equipment at no cost to the public. Through the Dell Reconnect™ partnership, Goodwill accepts and sorts donated computers, which will be responsibly recycled through Dell’s product recycling programs. All revenues generated through the program also benefit Goodwill’s mission of helping people in our community get back to work.
Simply take your unwanted computers and related equipment of any brand and in any condition to a Goodwill store or donation drop-off site. View a list of all Goodwill Donation Centers.
Items that may be recycled through the Dell Reconnect™ program include:
- Computers (desktops and laptops)
- Keyboards and mice
- Hard drives (external and internal)
- Printers (laser and inkjet)
- Ink & toner cartridges
- Other related hardware
To make the donation process a smooth one and, most importantly, protect your privacy and prevent identity theft, Goodwill recommends you remove all data from your computer hard drive before donating a computer.

Why have Dell and Goodwill partnered to offer Dell Reconnect™?
Goodwill has a network of stores and donation centers and tremendous experience with accepting gently used goods, making Goodwill a natural convenient drop-off location for used computers. Dell has industry-leading experience in offering responsible consumer recycling programs that meet the highest standards of workplace and environmental safety. Working together, Goodwill and Dell can make free computer recycling available to more consumers and help raise consumer awareness about the importance of responsibly recycling used computers.
How do I know you will handle my computer responsibly?
Dell Reconnect is managed to both Goodwill and Dell’s high standards for workplace and environmental safety. All collection and recycling practices are audited by a third-party to ensure these standards are met. These standards include an absolute prohibition on the export of waste and on the landfill of any environmentally-sensitive material.
Do you accept computers from businesses for recycling?
Dell Reconnect is designed for residential consumers who wish to recycle used computers. Businesses may have additional logistics or reporting needs that Dell Reconnect does not offer and may wish to find a qualified asset recovery partner for their recycling needs.
