Medicaid Waiver Services

What are Medicaid Waiver services?

Goodwill offers Medicaid Waiver Services programs that focus on achieving individualized goals and objectives as identified by program participants and their support teams. The programs operate in accordance with state licensing regulations and enable individuals to receive services in their community rather than in an institution.

Individuals participating in Medicaid Waiver programs at Goodwill are referred by Community Services Boards. Programs operate Monday through Friday from 8:30am - 3pm.

Day Support Services

Day Support Services (DSS) are provided to individuals with developmental disabilities who receive Medicaid Waiver funding. The services include training, assistance and specialized supervision for the acquisition, retention, improvement of self-help, socialization, and adaptive skills. DSS focus on enabling an individual to attain or maintain his or her maximum functional level and may include training in the following areas:

  • Self, social, and environmental awareness skills.
  • Sensory stimulation, gross and fine motor skills.
  • Communication and personal care.
  • Community resources and safety awareness.
  • Learning and problem solving skills.
  • Adapting behavior to community and social settings.

Prevocational Services

These services are aimed at preparing an individual for paid or unpaid employment. Prevocational Services are offered to individuals whose productivity is less than 50% of standard work rate. Prevocational Services focus on enabling an individual to attain or maintain his or her maximum functional level and may include training and support in the following areas:

  • Skills which are aimed at preparation for paid employment.
  • Activities that are primarily directed at habilitative outcomes, such as attention span and motor skills.
