Success Story: Sylvester Tamba

sylvester-cutoutWhen Sylvester Tamba moved from Africa to America, his primary goal was to find work to support himself and his family back home in Liberia. However, cultural barriers and Sylvester’s disability made it difficult to find a job. Feeling discouraged, and defeated, Sylvester moved from Wilmington, NC to Lynchburg and it was here that he found success through the help of Goodwill. Sylvester was referred to Goodwill’s Community Work Adjustment Training program (CWAT) and began working at a Goodwill store where he has thrived. Sylvester now has hope that his wife and son in Liberia will be able to join him. “Goodwill has given me that chance to live the life I want to live. Work gives me independence.”
